Violin Lessons « Result #1 on Mar 12, 2009, 1:19am »
"Daddy, can I learn to play the violin?" young Sarah asked her father. She was always asking for things and her father was not very pleased.
"You cost me a lot of money, Sarah," he said. "First you wanted to learn horse riding, then dancing, then swimming. Now it's the violin.
"I'll play every day ,Daddy." Sarah said. "I'll try very hard.
"All right," her father said. "This is what I'll do. I'll pay for you to have lessons for six weeks. At the end of six weeks you must play something for me. If you play well, you can have more lessons. If you play badly, I will stop the lessons."
"0. K. Daddy," Sarah said. "That is fair.
He soon found a good violin teacher and Sarah began her lessons. The teacher was very expensive, but her father kept his promise.
The six weeks passed quickly. The time came for Sarah to play for her father.
She went to the living room and said, "I'm ready to play for you, Daddy.
"Fine, Sarah," her father said. "Begin.
She began to play. She played very badly. She made a terrible noise.
Her father had one of his friends with him, and the friend put his hands over his ears.
When Sarah finished, her father said, "Well done, Sarah. You can have more lessons."
Sarah ran happily out of the room. Her father's friend turned to him. "You've spent a lot of money, but she still plays very badly. he said.
"Well, that's true," her father said. "But since she started learning the violin I've been able to buy five apartments in this build very cheaply. In another six weeks I'll own the whole building!"
Enlarging The Breast « Result #2 on Mar 12, 2009, 1:18am »
A husband, tired of his wife asking him how she looks, buys her a full length mirror. This does little to help, as now she just stands in front of the mirror, looking at herself, asking him how she looks. One day, fresh out of the shower, she is yet again in front of the mirror, now complaining that her breasts are too small.
The husband comes up with a suggestion. ^If you want your breasts to grow, then every day take a piece of toilet paper, and rub it between your breasts for a few seconds. ̄
Willing to try anything, the wife fetches a piece of toilet paper, and stands in front of the mirror, rubbing it between her breasts. ^How long will this take? ̄ she asks.
^They¨ll grow larger over a period of years, ̄ he replies.
The wife stops. ^Why do you think rubbing a piece of toilet paper between my breasts every day will make my breasts grow over the years? ̄
The husband shrugs. ^Why not, it worked for your ass, didn't it? ̄

Re: The Assault of YES on the Objectivist forum « Result #8 on Dec 30, 2004, 6:28pm »
I have to admit, I find Jack Wakeland's analyses very troubling.
I have read through that thread- although I'm banned from posting I still have access to that site- I too am confounded by Mr. Wakeland's confrontation against Yaron Brook.
I further am confounded by Mr. Wakeland's total lack of indicating that the purpose of fighting an enemy is to either vanquish the enemy or force the enemy to surrender.
Furthermore, I question Jack Wakeland's qualifications as an "Objectivist." I get annoyed when a conservative thinker labels himself Objectivist, then expresses views that are clearly parallel to conservatism.
As a proponent of Objectivism, one who has been familiar with it since 1977, I experience difficulty tolerating those who relate Objectivism to conservatism. I have cited many instances where the two are incompatible. It's clearly written in any of Ayn Rand's nonfiction works.

I have seen the light, and it is here.
I'll just say that, for the record, no justification exists for the fact that I now rate a 40% warn.
It has been both an enlightening and a frustrating experience posting over at objectivism-online.net.
Some credit must be given to Greedy Capitalist and Ash Ryan for making such a site and forum possible. Prior to this, only scant sites were devoted to capitalism discussions, and those sites had unusual restrictions which had the effect of blocking free thought. The 15 minute time limitation between posts does little more than stifle one's ability to respond in any thoughtful manner. I hate any element which seeks to impede my ability to respond on any forum.
The biggest problem I see on this forum is the attempt of those who were obviously educated, or more correctly, brainwashed, by whole language reading "comprehension", whole math, and revisionist history, to transcend from the dictates of whole education to the cognitive thought processes that many in my generation have developed as a result of reading comprehension through phonics, mathematics with quantitative analysis, and history which presents facts and encourages discussion and analysis.
In other words, respondents trained to do otherwise must now think in a cognitive manner and respond to questions with analysis and grasp of reality. The transcending into discussion of a philosophy based upon reason can be daunting to such minds.
When I answer a question to someone who I suspect was "educated" in this manner- and believe me, as a 56-year-old architect, I can tell- I make every attempt to demonstrate visually why it is I hold a certain opinion.
For example, in my response to BurgessLau in Post No. 60, I get specific as to why I think Jack Wakeland is not a valid purveyor of Objectivism by analyzing his own article and relating it to Objectivist epistemology. See Post #74.
The poster who calls himself Gadfly takes a totally ridiculous approach to my response by stating that I haven't proven my point. This is the kind of poster who is on my Ignore List.
By forming such an Ignore list, by the way, I am able to respond to those who I think are taking a very principled approach based upon capitalism in their discussions, rather than utilizing Objectivism as an escape from their own sorry state of mind.
